Biographical Statement
Dr. Erwin Sieben obtained his Masters degree at the Wageningen Agricultural University in the Netherlands in 1996 majoring on a research project on vegetation mapping of floodplain wetlands. He then came to South Africa in 1998 to do his PhD on riparian vegetation and its relationship to flooding in mountain streams in the Western Cape mountains. He did a post-doc at UKZN in 2005 on wetland rehabilitation and continued with research on wetlands and their vegetation. He joined the school of environmental sciences at UKZN again in 2016.

Research Interests
My research interests are in Vegetation Science, Ecohydrology, Wetlands, Forests, Biogeography and Ecosystem Services. I like to work on the cross-section between species and ecosystems and like to look into how species contribute to essential ecosystem services.
