The Geoinformation Science section has a number of software and hardware facilities supporting research and teaching. There is a  strong relationship with ESRI, which provides most of our software. We also have large equipment procured through external and internal research funds.

SOFTWARE

The University has ArcGIS licenses supporting most of our undergraduate teaching and postgraduate GIS analytical and modeling research projects.
		IDRISI ANDES is used to support mainly undergraduate remote sensing modules. We also have a 30 HEAK site license for ERDAS imagine supporting mainly post graduate students.

Hardware

There are a number of University LAN facilities supporting Geoinformation Science teaching and research. The Geography Department in Pietermaritzburg has a dedicated 48 GIS computer LAN and 200 on the Howard College campus.
